What Were They Thinking?

An Orthodox Rabbi Reads the Christian Bible

It's been two thousand years. We have no end of Christian books and interpretations of the Jewish Bible, and Torah literature. In recent times, in light of secular scholarship, we have some Jewish insights and interpretations of Christianity becoming available. Yet, to this day, I have never seen any Torah faithful, Orthodox Rabbi open and read the Christian Bible, and then publicly discuss what he thinks about what he is reading.

This is about to change! In my new class, I am going to set out on a journey.

I want to read the Christian Bible,
from a completely Torah faithful, Jewish point of view,
and share with you my insights,
as you read along with me.

If indeed, the historical Yeshu (Jesus) was truly a Torah faithful Orthodox Jew of his day, as were his followers, then it should be that I, another Torah faithful Orthodox Jew, should be able to recognize what is, and what is not Torah faithful, Orthodox Judaism, in what became the Christian texts.

If indeed, many of the original authors, Matthew, John, Peter, and James walked with Yeshu and properly reflect his teachings, well then, let's explore those teachings and see how we, as Torah faithful Orthodox Jews see them today. Maybe, just maybe, we can distinguish between what really is Jewish and really is not about the texts. At least, this is what I hope to accomplish.

Let me state here for the record that this is not a class about Christianity.
I am not going to teach Christianity, I am not going to attack Christianity,
and I am going to endeavor to not talk about Christianity, at all!
I want to talk Torah, and that is what I will do.

So, let no Christian take offense at my endeavors. I have absolutely no intentions to try to convert or convince anyone about anything. All I am going to do is to read and share my insights (or lack of them) as I read the Christian Bible.

All are welcome to join. I am sure that I will raise a good number of questions that will get many to think about the sacred stories that we have been told for so long.

* This will be a good class to educate Jewish listeners to understand the Christian Bible, and Yeshu's original message. This knowledge will help immunize Jews from missionary attacks.

* I am sure my insights will also be helpful to Christians when I look at things in a light that they may have never considered before.

* For the Noahide, this class will also be a “breath of fresh air” that will help them establish and maintain their faith, and walk with God.

So, I hope this class will have something for everyone. And again, everyone is welcome to attend.

This class will be offered Wednesday evenings at 8:00 p.m. ET,
(in the second per-week) KosherTorah Open Forum.
